High performance, low consumption – that’s the aim of the dynamic drive system in the BMW 2 Series Convertible. Sophisticated TwinPower Turbo engines from the BMW EfficientDynamics engine family have won the “Engine of the Year Award” several times. They impress with low emissions while, at the same time, offering smooth running, outstanding dynamics – and, thanks to the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, breathtaking, virtually interruption-free acceleration.

  • BMW Twin Power Turbo petrol engines

    The latest generation BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engines feature remarkably agile power delivery and excellent responsiveness, even at low engine speeds. At the same time they are more efficient, with fewer emissions and better performance than their predecessors. These innovative engines combine the latest fuel injection technology and fully variable valve control including Double-VANOS with state-of-the-art turbocharger technology and represents a milestone in the BMW EfficientDynamics development strategy. The result is a particularly efficient drive train, which emphasises the renowned BMW engine prowess. The BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine has been honoured multiple times with the Engine of the Year Award, bolstering its worldwide reputation for dynamic power delivery, extremely smooth running characteristics and impressive efficiency. The engines from the BMW EfficientDynamics range feature a technology concept that has been proven highly successful and is implemented in nearly all petrol engines.

  • 8-speed Steptronic transmission

    The 8-speed Steptronic transmission sets new standards in comfort and dynamic performance and is a key element of BMW EfficientDynamics. The unusually fine increments between gears facilitate optimum power delivery at all speeds. This reduces fuel consumption significantly, while allowing the driver to enjoy increased sportiness and dynamic performance. The engine speed is reduced, particularly at high speeds, which in turn reduces both fuel consumption and engine noise.
    The converter clutch also helps – even if the car is in manual mode. The fast engine speed transitions and precise transmission tuning guarantee incredibly smooth gear shifts. Integrated functions such as predictive drivetrain, driver recognition and the constant monitoring of the vehicle's movements and the traffic situation considerably affect the way the transmission shifts gears. Regardless of the current driving mode, the system always selects the most suitable gear – even in manual mode. In Sport mode, more responsive engine settings and a series of integrated functions that use data from the navigation system further boost the driving dynamics. The Comfort mode has more comfort-oriented transmission settings and ensures fewer gear shifts.

ECO PRO MODE.

The ECO PRO mode helps drivers reduce their fuel consumption by up to 20 percent, depending on their driving style – according to an internal BMW fuel consumption study. The coasting function, the route-ahead assistant and ECO PRO route make it possible to save a further five percent.
The coasting function (only available in conjunction with 8-speed Steptronic transmission) decouples the drive train from the engine and the vehicle rolls (or "coasts") without any propulsion when the driver takes the foot from the gas at speeds of between 50 and 160 km/h, does not apply the brakes, and the route-ahead assistant does not adjust the speed.
Based on data from the navigation system, the route-ahead assistant (only available in conjunction with navigation system Professional recognizes curves, built-up areas, speed limits and motorway exits, and gives the driver tips in advance about when to stop accelerating.
ECO PRO route (only available in conjunction with navigation system Professional or navigation system Business) shows the most efficient route based on the traffic situation, driving style and road conditions. The on-board computer displays the percentage of fuel that can be saved by driving along the route selected by ECO PRO route.
